On 12/10/2024, at approximately 10:15 PM, a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a silver Nissan sedan on Pleasant Valley Road near Wood Road in Camarillo for vehicle code violations. The driver, Jose Meza, did not stop. Police escalated a chase onto northbound Las Posas Road and then southbound Highway 101, reaching speeds over 100 mph. Meza attempted to exit at the Lewis Road offramp but collided with the center guardrail. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.
The incident is under investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
