On December 26, 2024, at approximately 5:22 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer responded to a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway on Old Sacramento Road east of Latrobe Road in Plymouth, Amador County. Some sort of confrontation ensued after the officer positioned his patrol car to block the path of Tyler Quentin Balaskovits’s pickup truck, resulting in a collision between the patrol car and the truck.

The officer exited his vehicle and engaged Balaskovits in an unknown manner. Police state that Balaskovits was armed. The officer shot and killed him. The California Highway Patrol and the Amador County District Attorney's office are conducting the investigation.
