On March 10, 2021, Rochester Police Department officers responded to a report of a man with a knife at the Open Door Mission on 210 W Main Street in Rochester, New York, around 3 a.m. Tyshon Jones, 29, had reportedly taken a knife from the Samaritan House and walked away. When officers confronted him, Jones was reportedly cutting himself with the knife and refused commands to drop it. Officers stated that Jones threatened to kill them and ignored attempts to subdue him with a Taser. As he advanced toward officers, one officer fired, fatally shooting him.
