On January 26, 2025, Newport Beach Police Department officers initiated a pursuit of a stolen 2022 Ram 1500 TRX just before 3 a.m. The chase led into Costa Mesa, where the driver control and crashed into an Edison power pole at the intersection of Santa Ana Avenue and 22nd Street. The front passenger, 20-year-old Oscar Axael Macias of Carson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is under investigation.
