Paige M. Newsum, 57, of Bradenton, Florida, was killed after a high-speed police pursuit that began in Cook County and crossed multiple jurisdictions. Deputies from Cook, Crisp, and Turner counties pursued Newsum's Cadillac north on Interstate 75 at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase ended in Dooly County near Exit 109 when deputies used a PIT maneuver. When officers approached her vehicle, Newsum reportedly fired a handgun, striking Turner County Deputy Baily Johnson. Deputies opened fire and killed Newsum. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review.
