On May 9, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m., ALEA troopers say 44-year-old Willie T. Wills of Moundville attempted to evade a Brent Police Department traffic stop on Alabama Highway 5 near mile marker 84, approximately two miles south of Brent. Wills’ 2024 Dodge Hornet collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by a 41-year-old Brent man, Jason G. Corley. Wills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acadia and two juvenile passengers sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and local hospitals. Multiple agencies assisted the response, including Brent and Centreville fire departments, Brierfield Rescue, and local EMS. The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
