On May 12, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., Iowa State Patrol attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 35 near Osceola. The driver, 45-year-old Chad Kelly of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of David Willey, 46, two days earlier in Trenton, Missouri. After stop sticks were deployed by local deputies and police, officers approached the disabled vehicle and found Kelly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
