On 07/19/2025, Jacksonville police responded to a crash at 11501 Beach Boulevard. Officers found Lawrence W. Sullivan, 71, walking near the roadway while armed with a handgun. Sullivan made suicidal statements and refused commands to disarm. Officers Slatowski and Hernandez engaged in attempts at de-escalation, but Sullivan raised the weapon toward officers. Officers opened fire and killed him. JSO released body camera footage of the shooting. The case remains under review by the State Attorney’s Office.
