On 12/21/2025, Albuquerque police responded to a reported shooting at a westside motel at 5701 Iliff Road NW in Albuquerque. Police said officers encountered Luis Arreola Palma during the response and an officer was shot in the chest. Police opened fire and shot Arreola Palma. He was transported for medical treatment and later died. The officer was hospitalized and survived. The incident remains under investigation.
