On 05/31/2021, San Jose police officers responded to a call in the area of Tofts Drive during the late evening hours. While officers were investigating the initial report, they encountered Demetrius Stanley. Police reported that during the encounter, Stanley held a firearm toward officers. Officers fired their weapons, shooting and killing Stanley at the scene. The Santa Clara County District Attorney later reviewed the shooting and determined the officers’ use of deadly force was justified. No officers were charged.
