On 10/03/2021, Colorado Springs police encountered David Lee Jacques Jr. at a Walmart on East Platte Avenue after an officer believed he was involved in shoplifting. Police stated Jacques continued running through the parking lot while an officer followed. Police said the officer deployed a Taser and alleged that Jacques then produced a firearm and fired toward the officer. Officer Chase Gardner opened fire and killed Jacques.
