On 12/19/2021, deputies responded to a single vehicle crash near Borgne Avenue around midday and identified Eric Lavon Nelson Sr. Officers determined felony warrants existed and requested Bogalusa Police assistance. Nelson moved away on foot and officers chased him through nearby areas before deploying a Taser and taking him into custody. After arrest he complained of breathing difficulty while detained and lost consciousness. He died after the detention. Authorities reviewed the incident and filed no criminal charges.
