On 04/04/2022, Muskegon Police Department officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Sugaridge Drive involving a man reported to be armed and acting erratically. Officers arrived and made contact with Joseph Christopher Miller outside the residence. Police reported that Miller fired a weapon during the encounter. Officers returned fire and shot him. He was transported to Mercy Health Muskegon where he was pronounced dead. Michigan State Police conducted the investigation into the shooting.
