On 08/26/2022, Ormond Beach Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle connected to a Lake County double homicide investigation. Before officers made contact, the vehicle sped away and officers pursued. The vehicle crashed in the parking lot of a KFC at 294 West Granada Blvd. Samantha H. Butler, 29, was found deceased inside the vehicle. Police stated she did not die from injuries related to the crash. She was later determined to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the pursuit.
