On Sunday, April 30, Maui police had received information on a Temporary Restraining Order Violation near mile marker 18.5 off Kamehameha V Highway in Wailua, Molokaʻi. Two officers came into contact with a 40-year-old Kaunakakai male who was carrying a machete. He walked toward the officers. Officers pointed tasers and guns at him and fired a taser. Heavily edited BWC footage does not show this nor the shooting. He was killed for carrying the machete. Family said he had been bipolar and “did not deserve to die.”
