Edward Ahrens, a convicted sex offender, had abducted an 11-year-old girl in Knoxville, Tennessee, and fled with her to Catoosa County, Georgia. On February 2, 2024, law enforcement officers in Georgia surrounded Ahrens' vehicle. During the confrontation, Ahrens rammed his car into multiple officers, which led four officers to open fire, fatally wounding him. The 11-year-old girl, who was with him at the time, was not physically injured in the incident. Ahrens had been on the Georgia sex offender registry and had previously been convicted of child exploitation charges.
