Laila Rose Hauser was parked in a Dollar General parking lot at 1 a.m. An South Carolina Highway Patrol officer drove up next to her. Apparently feeling uncomfortable, she drove away. The officer followed and attempted a traffic stop. Laila Rose Hauser did not stop and the officer escalated a high-speed chase which caused her to run into a tree and die. She had committed no crime and seemed to be afraid of the police chase only. Houser’s father used to be an employee for the same Sheriff’s Office that chased Laila Houser to her death. Oddly, Laila Hauser did not seem to trust the officer from her father’s former PD and fled from him. No officers were charged.
