On February 1, 2023, at about 1:35 a.m. NY State Police observed a vehicle driving erratically on Washington Avenue Extension in Albany, NY. The vehicle matched a car from an earlier pursuit. Troopers had attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver Jason S. Benn, did not stop. A chase was escalated during which Benn hitseveral parked vehicles. Police claim to have “called off the chase” at 1:44 a.m. Shortly thereafter, troopers found Benn crashed in Knox, NY. He had sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital shortly thereafter. Police allege that Benn did not have the owner’s permission to drive the car and had some drugs in the car. Benn had had prior bad experience with the police which may help explain why he ran from police.
