Sergeant Buck Aldridge, the deputy who murdered Leonard Cure at a traffic stop in GA on Oct. 16, 2023 is a known misconduct cop who was fired by his previous PD for excessive force and on-duty as well as off-duty misconduct.
His career timeline is outlined below.
2012 Kingsland PD in Georgia hired Buck Aldridge as police officer in December of 2012.
2014 Officer Buck Aldridge was written up with entry into his personnel file for an inappropriate traffic stop during which he arrested a person without probable cause or evidence of any crime having been committed. He was ordered to have mandatory training on communication skill building and particularly getting re-training and counseling on properly conducting a traffic stop and probable cause for resisting arrest.
2016 Officer Buck Aldridge was again reprimanded in his personnel file, this time for an inappropriate response to a motorcycle on the I-95 that had to pull over for mechanical problems with Officer Buck chasing so dangerously close after the defective motorcycle that his patrol car “made contact with” the motorcycle after it had already parked in the emergency lane.
2017 In April of 2017, Officer Buck Aldridge was placed on administrative leave for a misconduct incident which is not explained in detail in his personnel file but was serious enough to warrant a suspension from his job.
2017 In August of 2017, after a number of incidents, the police department decided that the Buck stops here and Officer Buck Aldridge was fired from his job as officer for Kingsland PD
2018 Buck Aldridge was hired by Camden County Sheriff’s Office as deputy and remains a sergeant with this Sheriff’s Office. He killed Leonard Ware while on duty for Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
2023 On October 18, 2023, Deputy Buck Aldridge made a traffic stop, again being very aggressive as described in the events that had led to his prior firing. During the stop, he tasered an unarmed man who tried to fight off the attack and was shot and killed in the process by Deputy Aldridge. The murder of Leonard Cure is described here.
Deputy Buck Aldridge is currently on paid leave after the recent killing.
This recycled misconduct cop may turn out to be an expensive liability for Camden County which hired him apparently without checking his employment history too closely.
The family hired attorney Ben Crump to handle the matter. This time, Buck may be out of luck but Georgia is one of the toughest states to prosecute a criminal cop. It will be interesting to watch a showdown between Ben Crump and the authorities in Camden County who despite his past misconduct record was given the badge and gun he used to kill Leonard Cure.
