On November 23, 2017, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Deputy Eric Overall, a 22-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, was fatally struck by a vehicle during a police pursuit. The incident occurred on M-15 near Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township, Michigan. Deputy Overall had deployed "Stop Sticks" to halt a fleeing driver when the vehicle swerved off the roadway and struck him. The pursuit began in Lapeer County after a man made threats at the Lapeer County Jail, and deputies attempted to stop him.
