On 03/23/2026, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a hit and run in the Hineston area where William Earl Hilton, a former sheriff, had been struck by a vehicle. Deputies located Hilton with severe injuries and he was airlifted to a hospital. After the crash, deputies identified the suspect vehicle and attempted a stop. The driver continued driving and police escalated a pursuit, reaching speeds over 100 mph before deploying spike strips and taking the driver into custody. Hilton died hours later from injuries caused by the crash. Authorities have not publicly released the driver’s identity as the investigation continues.

On 03/18/2026, Master Sergeant Tyler Grezaffi, 27, was involved in a single vehicle crash on the grounds of the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. Her vehicle left the roadway and entered a water filled ditch. Authorities were initially unable to locate her after the crash, and she was found approximately an hour later. She died from injuries sustained in the crash. Grezaffi had worked at the facility for over a year and previously served with the Pointe Coupee and Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Offices. Louisiana State Police are investigating the incident.

On 03/10/2026, Ithaca Police Lieutenant Thomas Condzella died unexpectedly at his home. He was 39 years old. Condzella joined the Ithaca Police Department in 2015 as a patrol officer and was promoted to sergeant and later lieutenant. He served on the Specialized Response Team and Crash Reconstruction Team, participated in recruitment efforts, and was president of the Ithaca Police Benevolent Association. He is survived by his wife and two young sons.

He was 31 years old and described by colleagues as a steady, reliable officer who built strong working relationships within the department and community.
