OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On July 17, 2022, Patrolman Vincent Anthony Parks, a 38-year-old recruit with the Jonesboro Police Department, died after collapsing during physical training exercises at the Central Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy located within Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It was his first day at the academy, following a month of in-house instructional training with the department. Initial reports indicated that Parks began showing signs of medical distress shortly before starting an exercise. Instructors administered oxygen, and he was able to walk to an ambulance. However, he suffered cardiac arrest upon entering the ambulance and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
.
The Arkansas State Police initiated a criminal investigation into Parks' death after discovering discrepancies between initial statements and new evidence. Preliminary accounts suggested that Parks had not engaged in significant physical activity prior to his collapse. However, subsequent findings, including cellphone footage, revealed that he had participated in approximately 25 minutes of physical exercises, contradicting earlier reports.
