On October 14, 2024, an off-duty Detroit police officer, 45, died from gunshot wounds after a confrontation with responding officers. The officer had been experiencing a mental health crisis, during which he called 911. Upon officers' arrival, he shot in the air, wounding two officers. One officer returned fire, fatally wounding him. The investigation is ongoing.
