On January 15, 2025, Navasota Police Sergeant Mark Butler initiated a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle on Highway 6 in Navasota, Texas. During the chase, both vehicles collided head-on under undisclosed circumstances, resulting in the deaths of both Sgt. Butler and the female driver he was pursuing. The incident is currently under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
