On January 20, 2025, Shamone Duncan, a 50-year-old off-duty Cook County deputy, was shot and killed during a robbery at Aziza Restaurant and Lounge in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. While on vacation, Duncan and her partner were targeted by armed individuals. Reports indicate that the individuals attempted to rob the couple when Duncan was fatally shot. Her partner was also injured but is recovering.
