OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Around 6:30 p.m., Newark police officers responded to an incident near Broadway and Carteret Street. A 14-year-old boy allegedly fired approximately 29 shots at officers. Two officers were struck and transported to University Hospital. A 25-year-old officer died from his injuries, while the other remains in critical condition. The 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Multiple individuals were detained in connection with the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
