OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 19, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., Suffolk County police responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Bruno Lane in Dix Hills, New York. Upon arrival, officers discovered 75-year-old John "Jack" Miller, a retired Suffolk County Police detective and longtime member of the Wyandanch Volunteer Fire Company, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigations revealed that Miller's son, 43-year-old Christopher Miller, had recently moved back into the family home following a divorce. Two days prior, Christopher was involved in a car accident and subsequent altercation, leading to his hospitalization. Unable to contact his son, John reported him missing. After being discharged, Christopher returned home, where an argument ensued between father and son. During the confrontation, Christopher allegedly retrieved a shotgun and shot his father multiple times. He then fled the scene and hid in a neighbor's shed on Seaman Neck Road. Responding officers recognized Christopher from the earlier missing person report and took him into custody. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently awaiting arraignment.
