On July 28, 2025, NYPD Officer Didarul Islam was shot and killed while responding to a mass shooting at a high-rise apartment building at 220 East 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The shooter, who was reportedly armed with multiple weapons, killed three others and injured several more before being neutralized. Officer Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh, had served on the force for nearly a decade and had a baby on the way. Investigation is ongoing.
