On 12/23/2025, Terry Bennett, 32, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle while providing assistance to a stranded motorist along Interstate 695 near South Capitol Street. On 12/23/2025, Delaware State Police trooper Matthew “Ty” Snook was killed during an active-shooter incident at a Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles facility in New Castle.
