Bode, 72, a retired probation and parole officer with five years of hospital service, confronted the suspect and was shot and killed. Enid Police entered the hospital, engaged the gunman, and fatally shot him. No other staff, patients, or officers were injured. Larry Blacksmith, a 57-year-old off-duty officer with the Lakeview Police Department, was killed in a motorcycle crash on July 16, 2025. Anderson “Chase” Childers, a 38-year-old former Georgia police officer and minor league baseball player, drowned after entering the water at Pawleys Island to rescue a group of swimmers caught in a rip current. On 07/01/2025 around 1:30 a.m., Deputy Devin Mason and another deputy entered a home on Old Timers Court to serve a warrant for a wanted person. They were ambushed inside the house. Deputy Mason was shot and killed. The second deputy was injured and hospitalized in stable condition. The shooter was also killed by police.
