On 12/10/2025, Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputy Joe Crumpton died after crashing a sheriff’s office vehicle in Fayette County, Georgia. Witnesses reported the patrol vehicle left the roadway and struck another vehicle. Sheriff Darrell Dix stated there was no police pursuit involved and said evidence suggests Crumpton experienced a medical emergency before the crash. A bystander broke the vehicle window and attempted CPR until emergency responders arrived. Crumpton was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab is reviewing the incident.

On 12/09/2025, Michael Tenpenny, a Woodbridge Police Department officer, was killed in a traffic crash while off duty in Carteret. Tenpenny was driving on Peter J. Sica Industrial Highway near Bristol Station Court when his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer. He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation by Carteret police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

On 12/08/2025, Austin Cooley, a 26-year-old Kaufman police officer and deputy chief of South Hunt County Fire-Rescue, was killed in a head-on motor vehicle crash while driving home from his night shift. According to Texas Department of Public Safety investigators, Cooley’s Honda Accord crossed into oncoming traffic on State Highway 34 near County Road 2186 and collided with a pickup truck. He died at the scene.

On 12/03/2025, California Highway Patrol officers located Marvin Morales on Interstate 5 near Lodi after authorities said he fatally stabbed his young son earlier that day in Elk Grove. CHP officers attempted to take him into custody. During the encounter, officers opened fire and shot Morales. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Jones died from medical complications stemming from gunshot wounds he sustained on 03/19/2016 while responding to a reported break-in at a vacant residence in Park Forest. He survived the initial shooting and lived with long-term medical effects for nearly nine years. His death in 2025 was attributed to complications directly related to those injuries. The original 2016 shooting was investigated by appropriate authorities, and the individual who fired the shots was prosecuted in that case.
