On 08/11/2025, off-duty Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Lyle fatally shot his former partner, Detention Specialist Mari Bonnici, inside her apartment on the 4600 block of Quigg Drive in Santa Rosa. Lyle and Bonnici had recently separated and shared three children who were present during the shooting but were not harmed. Lyle handed their infant to a neighbor and told them to call 911 before fleeing in his personal vehicle. He was later located in the parking lot of the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office. After a six-hour standoff with SWAT, Lyle died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
