Event : Police recruit dies during first day of training
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/11/2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m., recruit Morlon Jenkins Jr., 42, experienced a medical emergency during a physical training session at the Florida Law Enforcement Academy’s Institute of Public Safety campus in Tavares, part of Lake Technical College. Jenkins was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Tavares police detectives are coordinating with the medical examiner to determine the cause of death; the investigation remains ongoing.
