On 08/26/2025, around 12:30 a.m., Kansas City Kansas police officers pursued a man. During the pursuit, Officer Hunter Simoncic deployed stop sticks on State Avenue and stood in the median. The driver deliberately swerved toward him and struck him with the vehicle. Simoncic was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries. The driver crashed shortly after and was arrested. He faces charges including first-degree murder. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation.
