OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/30/2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., off-duty Wellston Police Officer Matthew Mckellan Juniper, 25, was a passenger on a golf cart driven by fellow officer Brant Derrow when it was rear-ended by a 2014 Hyundai operated by a juvenile. The impact forced the golf cart off the roadway and into a tree. Juniper was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Derrow sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a West Virginia hospital. The juvenile driver suffered minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
