OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 4, 2025, Officer Ray Barrantes of the Chowchilla Police Department was driving east on Highway 152 when his patrol car collided with a double-loaded semi-truck traveling south on Road 13. The patrol vehicle struck the right side of the second trailer and became wedged beneath it. Officer Barrantes was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
