Deputy Charles Riley and Detective Brett Stassi Jr. were interviewing a suspect inside the Iberville Parish Courthouse when the suspect attempted to grab a deputy’s firearm. Multiple shots were fired. Deputy Riley was fatally struck, and the suspect was killed. Detective Stassi Jr., the son of Sheriff Brett Stassi, was critically wounded and remains hospitalized. Riley was married with two children.
