OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Officer Henry Franklin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was fatally shot while serving a warrant in rural Mississippi County. Police said Franklin was assisting in a homicide investigation when the suspect opened fire from inside a residence. Franklin, a tactical team member and K-9 handler, was struck and killed. The suspect was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Franklin had served with the department since 2013 and was also a member of the Army National Guard.
