On October 17, 2025, Sgt. Thomas Duran, a 14-year veteran of the El Reno Police Department, stopped to assist a pedestrian on Watts Road near Wilson Avenue. According to investigators, a vehicle left the road and struck him. He was hospitalized and later died on October 24, 2025, from his injuries.
