OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/21/2025, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and a locksmith responded to a home in the Bermuda Club community to serve an eviction notice requested by the suspect’s mother. The suspect, Michael Halberstam, opened fire from inside the residence, killing Deputy Terri Sweeting-Mashkow, injuring another deputy in the shoulder and critically wounding the locksmith. Officers returned fire and struck Halberstam. He later died from his injuries. The call was described as a standard eviction service call.
