OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/14/2025, 51-year-old Kevin Berry, a former Laurel County sheriff’s deputy and police captain, shot and killed his 77-year-old mother, Margie Berry, at her home on Leslie Drive in Berea during the early morning hours. After the murder, Berry fled in a vehicle that was later spotted on Interstate 75 in Whitley County. Law enforcement officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Williamsburg, but Berry did not respond to commands. He was subsequently found dead inside his car from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Interstate 75 was shut down in both directions during the incident.
