On 02/03/2026, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy Rick Haggard, 52, was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic in front of Shannon Elementary School in Shannon, Mississippi. Sheriff Jim Johnson identified Haggard as a school resource officer assigned to the school. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated the incident occurred during traffic control duties outside the school.
