OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/18/2026, an officer working for a private prisoner transport company was inside a St. Joseph Services extradition van traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in Jackson County during an interstate prisoner transfer from Florida when the vehicle struck a pole, overturned, and collided with a utility truck near the Highway 609 exit. The transport van caught fire after the crash, trapping restrained occupants inside as emergency crews cut into the vehicle to conduct rescues. The officer and one transported prisoner died from crash-related injuries while two other occupants and the utility truck driver were seriously injured during the multi-vehicle crash involving the transport van.
