Event : Officer killed in line-of-duty crash during traffic stop
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/19/2026 shortly after midnight, a Hahira Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan on the east shoulder of Interstate 75 in Lowndes County and remained seated inside a marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated. A Chevrolet Camaro traveling north failed to maintain its lane, drove onto the shoulder, and struck the rear of the patrol car with significant force, pushing the patrol vehicle into the stopped Nissan and sending all three vehicles off the roadway. The officer died at the scene from crash injuries. The Camaro driver was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where they also died from their injuries. Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the three-vehicle crash.
