OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/19/2025, Trooper Tara-Marysa Guting of the Washington State Patrol was killed while responding to and investigating a two-vehicle collision on southbound State Route 509 near Tacoma. Officers reported she was positioned outside her patrol vehicle conducting the investigation when she was struck by a vehicle. While on the ground from that initial impact, a second vehicle also struck her before leaving the scene. Emergency personnel and bystanders rendered aid, but Guting succumbed to her injuries. The Tacoma Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash and the involvement of the second vehicle. At the time of her death, Guting had been serving with the Washington State Patrol since her graduation from the academy in 2024. No arrests had been made related to the second vehicle as of the latest reporting.
