On 12/03/2025, Detective Timothy M. Jones died from medical complications stemming from gunshot wounds he sustained on 03/19/2016 while responding to a reported break-in at a vacant residence in Park Forest. During that response, an individual inside the residence fired at officers, striking Jones multiple times, including injuries that caused a traumatic brain injury and paralysis. He survived the initial shooting and lived with long-term medical effects for nearly nine years. His death in 2025 was attributed to complications directly related to those injuries. The original 2016 shooting was investigated by appropriate authorities, and the individual who fired the shots was prosecuted in that case.
