OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/07/2004, Reserve Deputy John C. Stahl III of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a suspicious vehicle call when he lost control of his patrol vehicle, which rolled and caught fire. A bystander pulled him from the vehicle, but he suffered a traumatic brain injury and lasting neurological damage. He lived with seizures and other complications for more than two decades before dying on 06/08/2025 at age 67 from those service-related injuries.
