On 05/16/2025, Alton Dale Berrian, a 56-year-old sergeant with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office in Gulf Breeze, Florida, died after complications from a heart attack. On 05/08/2025, he helped a motorist move a disabled vehicle out of the roadway and later complained of pain, went to a hospital, lost consciousness, and was transferred for emergency surgery. He never regained consciousness and passed away on 05/16/2025. Berrian had served with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office for 21 years and previously served with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
