On 04/12/2025, Thomas K. Herrick, a 71-year-old retired investigator with the New York State Police, died in Bethpage, New York from prostate cancer that resulted from his assignment to search and recovery operations at the World Trade Center site following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Herrick had joined the New York State Police on October 18, 1982 and served 26 years before retiring on August 19, 2009. His death was later determined to be a line-of-duty death linked to his 9/11 response work.
