On 02/25/2026, a correctional officer at Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg was stabbed by a detained individual inside a housing unit. Staff responded after the detained individual attacked the officer with a weapon inside the facility. Medical personnel transported the officer for treatment, and he died from the stab wounds. The district attorney stated the detained individual will be charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not released the officer’s name or age.
