OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/21/2024, Corporal Dennis Francis Kelly of the Delaware State Police died from complications related to spinal injuries he sustained in a helicopter training accident on 05/20/1984. During routine helicopter takeoff and landing exercises at Sussex County Municipal Airport, the state police helicopter flipped on its side, breaking his neck and resulting in lifelong quadriplegia. He lived with those injuries for four decades before succumbing to complications from them. Kelly served with the Delaware State Police Aviation Section for seven years.
