On February 17, 2025, Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kyle McAcy was killed while responding to a crash on Interstate 80 between Ashland and Greenwood. Trooper McAcy and another trooper were assisting at the scene of a collision involving a snowplow and two other vehicles around 9:20 a.m. While outside his patrol car, McAcy was struck by the snowplow and died from his injuries at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting an internal investigation into the incident.

On February 16, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Officer Robert Fryc, a 43-year-old member of the Glenview Police Department, was involved in a fatal vehicle crash in the 200 block of South Northwest Highway in Barrington, Illinois. Officer Fryc, a 17-year veteran of the department, was driving to work at the time of the incident. Upon arrival, responding officers found at least two vehicles involved in the crash. Officer Fryc was pronounced dead at the scene. The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

On 02/15/2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Suffolk County Police responded to a report of a shooting at 28 Woodbrook Drive in Ridge, New York. Officers arrived and found a 68-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition. The alleged shooter, her husband, 66-year-old Gerard Senatore, barricaded himself inside the home. After several hours, police entered the residence and found Senatore dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation remains ongoing. Senatore had been a retired correctional officer in New York.

On February 10, 2025, at approximately 7:32 p.m., Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of Northwest Avenue D in Belle Glade, Florida. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 39-year-old off-duty corrections deputy suffering from a gunshot wound. The deputy was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities described the incident as a targeted attack. The name of the deputy has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.

On February 7, 2025, a Roswell Police Department officer responded to a report of a suspicious person behind the King Market shopping center at 1425 Market Boulevard in Roswell, Georgia.

Upon encountering the individual, the man immediately produced a firearm and opened fire, striking the officer multiple times.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by other responding officers.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation.

The names of both the officer and the suspect have not been released pending notification of family members.

On 02/06/2025, Kelvin O. Patrick, a 68-year-old retired Police Officer with the Detroit Police Department, died from complications related to gunshot wounds he sustained in the line of duty on 05/24/1996. On February 4, 2025, Officer Jason Roscow, a 17-year veteran of the North Las Vegas Police Department, responded to reports of a person with a handgun near the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte. Officer Summer Kennard, 20, was driving eastbound on U.S. Route 42 when her vehicle went off the right side of the road. She overcorrected, crossed left of center, and collided with a westbound vehicle. She was transported to a hospital where she died.

On February 1, 2025, U.S. Capitol Police Recruit Officer Christopher Katz, 22, was killed in a car crash in Brunswick, Georgia. Katz and five other recruits were off duty during their training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center when their Jeep Wrangler was struck by a Ford Escape that failed to yield while turning left into Morningstar Marina. The collision caused the Jeep to overturn, ejecting Katz and two others. Katz succumbed to his injuries several hours later. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.

On January 29, 2025, Stow Police Department officers responded to a residence on Timber Top Drive in She had been a mother of five. , Ohio, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Benjamin Asiedu, a deputy with the Summit County Sheriff's Office, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Evidence indicated that Asiedu had shot and killed his girlfriend, Latoia Philpott, before taking his own life. The incident is under investigation.

On January 29, 2025, 66-year-old Wilburn May, a former police officer from Meridian PD in Mississippi, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a standoff with law enforcement in Smith County.The Smith County Sheriff's Department, alongside the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrived at May's residence near Taylorsville to serve an arrest warrant related to multiple sex-related crimes involving a minor in Lauderdale County. Upon contact, May emerged with a firearm, leading to a standoff with USA marshals and Smith County deputies. Despite negotiation attempts, he ultimately took his own life. He was pronounced dead at his home.The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently reviewing the incident. May's identity was initially withheld pending family notification but has since been confirmed by officials. He had been an officer with Meridian PD and an assistant police chief of the Newton Police Department.

On January 25, 2025, Officer Ryan Kingerski, 26, died by suicide. On January 20, 2025, Shamone Duncan, a 50-year-old off-duty Cook County deputy, was shot and killed during a robbery at Aziza Restaurant and Lounge in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. While on vacation, Duncan and her partner were targeted by armed individuals. Reports indicate that the individuals attempted to rob the couple when Duncan was fatally shot. On January 20, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Border Patrol Agent David "Chris" Maland conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 91 near Newport, Vermont, close to the Canadian border. During the stop, one of the vehicle's occupants opened fire, fatally wounding Agent Maland. In the exchange, one suspect was killed, and the other was injured and taken into federal custody. Agent Maland was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the United States Border Patrol for nine years as a K-9 handler. He began his career with U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Weslaco Station in Texas and was last assigned to the Newport Station in Vermont. ​

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 2:20 p.m., retired NYPD Sergeant Jack Shapiro, 54, of Holbrook, was surfing off Gilgo Beach in Babylon, New York. He became unresponsive in the water and was pulled to shore by a bystander. Despite CPR efforts by Marine Bureau officers, Shapiro was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital. The water temperature at the time was slightly above 39°F. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the official cause of death.

On January 15, 2025, Navasota Police Sergeant Mark Butler initiated a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle on Highway 6 in Navasota, Texas. On January 15, 2025, Brazoria County Sheriff's Deputy Jesus "Jesse" Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the department, was fatally shot while attempting to serve an arrest warrant in southwest Houston. Deputy Vargas, who was part of the U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, was approaching 56-year-old Robert Lee Davis near a Dollar Tree store on Stella Link Road when Davis opened fire, striking Deputy Vargas in the head. Deputy Vargas was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Davis fled the scene, prompting an extensive manhunt. He was later located hiding in a dumpster by a U.S. Marshals K-9 unit. During the apprehension, Davis shot and wounded the K-9 before officers returned fire, resulting in Davis's death.

On January 5, 2025, Detroit Police Officer Cameron Richardson was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident on the east side of Detroit while heading home from work. On 12/31/2024, Major Jeffrey A. On December 24, 2024, at approximately 2:44 a.m., Jeff Reynolds, a correctional officer with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 29 near Elk Mound, Wisconsin, en route to fill a shift at the county jail. At the intersection with County Highway E, a northbound vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with Reynolds's vehicle. The other driver, a 40-year-old man from Eau Claire, was arrested and charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is leading the investigation.

On December 23, 2024, Officer Michael Horan of the Greensboro Police Department responded to a report of a man with a gun inside a Food Lion supermarket in Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, Officer Horan was fatally shot by the man.
The man fled the scene but was apprehended following a high-speed chase. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident. Officer Horan had been with the Greensboro Police Department since 2018 and was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard since 2000. He was known for his dedicated service to the community.
