On January 25, 2025, Officer Ryan Kingerski, 26, died by suicide. According to his parents, Kingerski had undergone LASIK eye surgery in August 2024 and subsequently experienced severe complications, including chronic headaches, double vision, floaters, and light sensitivity. These symptoms reportedly prevented him from returning to duty. Despite consulting multiple specialists, his condition did not improve. In a note left behind, Kingerski wrote, "I can't take this anymore. LASIK took everything from me."

On January 20, 2025, Shamone Duncan, a 50-year-old off-duty Cook County deputy, was shot and killed during a robbery at Aziza Restaurant and Lounge in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. While on vacation, Duncan and her partner were targeted by armed individuals. Reports indicate that the individuals attempted to rob the couple when Duncan was fatally shot. On January 20, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Border Patrol Agent David "Chris" Maland conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 91 near Newport, Vermont, close to the Canadian border. During the stop, one of the vehicle's occupants opened fire, fatally wounding Agent Maland. In the exchange, one suspect was killed, and the other was injured and taken into federal custody. Agent Maland was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the United States Border Patrol for nine years as a K-9 handler. He began his career with U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Weslaco Station in Texas and was last assigned to the Newport Station in Vermont. ​

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 2:20 p.m., retired NYPD Sergeant Jack Shapiro, 54, of Holbrook, was surfing off Gilgo Beach in Babylon, New York. He became unresponsive in the water and was pulled to shore by a bystander. Despite CPR efforts by Marine Bureau officers, Shapiro was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital. On January 15, 2025, Brazoria County Sheriff's Deputy Jesus "Jesse" Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the department, was fatally shot while attempting to serve an arrest warrant in southwest Houston. He was later located hiding in a dumpster by a U.S. Marshals K-9 unit. During the apprehension, Davis shot and wounded the K-9 before officers returned fire, resulting in Davis's death.

On January 5, 2025, Detroit Police Officer Cameron Richardson was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident on the east side of Detroit while heading home from work. On December 24, 2024, at approximately 2:44 a.m., Jeff Reynolds, a correctional officer with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 29 near Elk Mound, Wisconsin, en route to fill a shift at the county jail. At the intersection with County Highway E, a northbound vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with Reynolds's vehicle. The other driver, a 40-year-old man from Eau Claire, was arrested and charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

On 12/21/2024, at approximately 3:06 a.m., Earnest Atwell Jr., a 60-year-old school resource officer with the Smyth County Sheriff's Office, was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 at the 45-mile marker in Smyth County, Virginia. Atwell was driving a Ford F-150 northbound when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, entered the median, and descended a steep, rocky embankment. The truck overturned and came to rest on the southbound side of the median. Atwell was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries at the crash site. On 12/21/2024, Corporal Dennis Francis Kelly of the Delaware State Police died from complications related to spinal injuries he sustained in a helicopter training accident on 05/20/1984. During routine helicopter takeoff and landing exercises at Sussex County Municipal Airport, the state police helicopter flipped on its side, breaking his neck and resulting in lifelong quadriplegia. He lived with those injuries for four decades before succumbing to complications from them. Kelly served with the Delaware State Police Aviation Section for seven years.

On the evening of December 19, 2024, Sgt. Stephen Williams, a 50-year-old veteran officer with 23 years of service, was shot and killed during a standoff at the Super 8 motel in Moody, Alabama. On 12/08/2024, Officer Jacob Candanoza, 28, of the Terrell Police Department, was fatally shot during a traffic stop around 11 p.m. in Terrell, Texas. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Texas Rangers.
